Student Opportunities
Graduate Training
Our firm
We are authorised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) to train CA students and are an approved training practice for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). We also take part in the Robert Gordon University placement programme for undergraduates in the Accounting and Finance course.
Our students receive first class training which stands them in good stead for first time exam passes. From day one you will have exposure to a varied client database which will accelerate your business learning and help develop your client relationship skills.
The First Step
Competition for one of our trainee spaces is strong, therefore we are looking for good Highers and strong academic performance at University. We look for 2:1 Honours degree or above. Consideration will also be given to “non relevant” students with strong academic achievements.
Our Graduate Recruitment process for 2012 is now closed. The graduate recruitment process for 2013 will commence in September 2012.
Professional Qualification
We offer several routes to professional qualification:
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (www.icas.org.uk)
The “traditional” 3 year CA training contract, leading to qualification as a CA. Our students experience time in Audit and Accounting Services, Corporate Finance and Tax.
We will fully fund your examination training for your first attempt at the examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (www.icas.org.uk).
While you are training, there are partners and managers who will monitor your progress and be available to provide help and support.
- Chartered Institute of Taxation (www.tax.org.uk)
For students eager to progress their career quickly in tax, this route “short circuits” the time taken to study for CTA (Chartered Taxation Advisor) and allows students to commence Association of Taxation Technician studies immediately on commencing with the firm without studying for CA exams first. On completion of ATT, students go on to study for membership of the Institute of Taxation as a Chartered Taxation Advisor.
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (www.acca.co.uk)
We also have a number of trainees studying for an alternative accountancy qualification of ACCA. These trainees are also fully funded for examination training and the first attempt at the various levels of the examinations (www.acca.co.uk). We are looking for a mix of prior experience and study for ACCA candidates.
Our Students Say….
“I have been in the Corporate Finance team for three years having rejoined the firm following my graduation. Prior to this I completed a year long placement with the firm in my third year of studies.
When returning from university I wanted to specialise in Corporate Finance whilst gaining my CA qualifications and couldn’t have chosen a better place to train for this – I am now fully qualified and have gained a lot of experience through involvement in a wide variety of deals. I’ve also benefited from a secondment to an insolvency practice, which was a big help to my overall development.
Studying for your CA whilst working in corporate finance can be difficult, but the team is very flexible and was supportive in helping me with my workload and to reach my full potential.”
From day one you can expect plenty of exposure to clients and challenging projects that will help you develop the skills necessary to succeed as a professional.
