Charities and Tax

It is a common misconception that charities do not pay tax. In fact charities are subject to various taxes but with careful planning the effects can be reduced. Our experienced team provide specialist advice to assist charities in planning transactions in the most tax effective manner as well as providing support in dealing with compliance matters.

Specifically, our team can provide assistance in the following areas:

Taxation

  • Review of financial statements to ensure eligibilty for the exemptions from taxation available to charities.
  • Specialist advice in relation to structure and constitution of charities.
  • Preparation of tax repayment claim forms.
  • Advising on employee taxation matters.
  • Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns for trading subsidiaries of charities.
  • Providing advice in relation to gift aid.

VAT

  • Compliance services and assistance with completing VAT returns and partial exemption calculations.
  • Review of VAT incurred to establish if savings can be made.
  • VAT planning advice for large capital projects.

This is an indicative, but not complete list of areas where we have saved clients tax, whilst at the same time ensuring that their obligations to the tax authorites are fully satisfied. If you have any taxation concerns surrounding a particular transaction, or a new venture/business stream, please do not hesitate to ask us for guidance.
